Monday, March 7, 2022 – Christophe L’Allier, the star character of the series Toute la vie (My Body and Them), played by Roy Dupuis, will be back at the heart of a brand-new challenge in À Cœur battant (Beating Hearts), Danielle Trottier’s brand-new annual drama series. Like Unité 9 (Unit 9) and Toute la vie (My Body and Them), this new fiction series by the author, which will air on ICI TÉLÉ in 2022-2023, will be produced by Fabienne Larouche and Michel Trudeau of Aetios Productions and directed by Jean-Philippe Duval.

À Cœur battant (Beating Hearts) revolves around the Prevention Cent of Violence (CPV), a community organization that caters to violent men. It was established to raise awareness among these men who have committed acts of violence against their wives, children, parents, and even friends and colleagues.

The Centre benefits from a first-rate counselor: Christophe L’Allier. A trained psychoeducator, he volunteered before working for a similar organization, the Marie-Labrecque school, dedicated to young pregnant teenagers. He chose to embrace a new cause that is close to his heart: domestic violence. He himself experienced it as a young adult. He has since reflected extensively on the subject and has managed to free himself from its trappings.

Christophe adopts the following perspective: in cases of domestic or marital violence, the aggressor is known, the victims are known, and the escalation to more serious acts is predictable. He wants to teach men to recognize the signs, the word that will turn their lives upside down, the attitude that will ruin their relationship. He wants to discern why a man chooses fear, intimidation, and blows to assert his rights, his point of view, his desires, his love. He chooses to intervene at the very heart of the violence in the hopes of understanding it, of making it understood, and ultimately, of reducing it. A truly titanic task!

Crown prosecutor Gabrielle Laflamme also has a beating heart. Her portrayal will be introduced when the rest of the cast is revealed at a later date. She works particularly hard on cases of domestic and intra-family violence. She has the same goals as Christophe L'Allier but a diametrically opposed approach. Gabrielle believes we live in a society that is too tolerant of acts of aggression, which are under-reported, considered secondary crimes, and certainly under-punished. She has seen victims withdraw their complaints because they realize the extent of the losses if they maintain their position against their spouse. The victims, who are often women, choose to protect their children at the expense of themselves. Gabrielle has seen too many women protect their little ones with their bodies.

That's why her lever is the law. She believes the means used must be more effective to make men understand that their violence is unacceptable. She is categorical and assertive in her approach, which includes fines, convictions and incarcerations.

Christophe and Gabrielle want the same thing: to see a reduction in violence against women, children, and their loved ones. They perceive violence personally and have different remedies to reduce it. Each of them dreams of the day when stories of violence will no longer be the most widespread and, above all, the most tolerated crime on the planet.

Different Situations of Violence

À Cœur battant (Beating Hearts) draws us into individual stories, but at the same time, they involve the entire family and society. These stories will allow us to better understand the dynamics of violence, and also to measure the extent to which we live in a culture of violence. Are we too tolerant of the violence of words, looks, attitudes, gestures, and gestures of control?

Who hasn't been the perpetrator of a violent action, a word, or behavior? How many of us have experienced violence? Who hasn't suffered from bullying, disrespect, and denigration in a relationship?

À Cœur battant (Beating Hearts), a foray into the disturbing world of domestic and intimate partner violence, is a human and gripping series by Danielle Trottier, directed by Jean-Philippe Duval and produced by Fabienne Larouche and Michel Trudeau (Aetios Productions) on ICI TÉLÉ in 2022-2023.
