Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – It is with great emotion and a sense of mission accomplished that Radio-Canada and Aetios Productions announce today that District 31, the biggest television hit of recent years, will conclude with the broadcast of its 720th episode on Thursday, April 21, on ICI TÉLÉ. This grand finale will obviously be worthy of this production, with the 31 squad having some big surprises in store for viewers over the next 59 episodes.

Writer Luc Dionne and Aetios Productions recently informed Radio-Canada of this decision, which accepts it with gratitude for all the work and talent deployed over the years.

"It is with deep gratitude to the people who created this series that I conclude this chapter of my professional life. District 31 has been, to date, the greatest challenge of my writing career." What an immense privilege to have been able to meet such a vast audience four nights a week for the past six years. The extraordinary creative freedom I enjoyed alongside Fabienne and Michel, as well as the unwavering support of Radio-Canada, were essential elements in the great success we share with the entire 31 team,” said writer Luc Dionne.

“Having undergone this demanding discipline myself, I know how much writing a daily drama monopolizes our entire existence. Michel and I are grateful to Luc for devoting six years of his life to it, deploying all his talent and his in-depth knowledge of police and legal circles to weave endlessly compelling plots. We are also grateful to all the actors and actresses and the entire team who brilliantly engaged in this challenging journey, week after week,” said producer Fabienne Larouche.

“The love affair between the audience and the world of District 31 marked an important chapter in Quebec television. It has greatly contributed to making ICI TÉLÉ the favorite destination for evening viewers since 2018-2019,” said Dany Meloul, General Manager of Radio-Canada Television. She added: “Considering the size of our market, bringing together nearly two million people every night around a TV show is truly phenomenal. I warmly thank its creator, the producers, artists, and artisans who poured all their heart and talent into this adventure to bring us this daily joy. And thank you to the loyal audience who tuned in every week and immersed themselves with us in the challenges facing District 31 investigators on a daily basis.”

DPCP: A new series for Luc Dionne

Finally, we can reassure fans who will be happy to know that Luc Dionne will continue to use his talent to serve Radio-Canada audiences. He is currently developing a 24-episode annual series, DPCP. Details of this new production will be revealed later this year.
